Project Description
Established in 1945, East Los Angeles College (ELAC) is located east of downtown Los Angeles in the city of Monterey Park. Situated on an 80 acre site, the ELAC campus, which now serves about 35,000 students, was in need of expansion to meet the continuing demands for new programs and increasing enrollment, and extensive renovation and repair of its existing facilities. $660 million dollars of construction bond funding was allocated to ELAC to address deferred maintenance issues and the need to update its existing buildings. Additionally, new construction, state-of-the-art buildings were also needed, to focus on the areas of performing arts, fine arts, science, technology and math. Many of ELAC's students are focused on moving on after graduation to a four year college while others are working toward entering many of the growing number of technical and other career opportunities upon graduation.
